Each episode of Outer Limits had a control voice opening narration to set the tone of the show. In the original Outer Limits there were some small variations in the speech. The new Outer limits was the same for all episodes.
These are based on a posting by stoodin101 in the usenet newsgroup rec.arts.sf.tv
For a sound file of the opening see the sounds page.
Variation #1
There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to
adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it
louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will
tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the
vertical. We can roll the image; make it flutter. We can change the focus
to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit
quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat: there is
nothing wrong with your television set. You are about to participate in a
great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which
reaches from the inner mind to the outer limits.
Variation #2
delete the lines about making it louder and softer.
Variation #3
delete "Sit quietly and"
Variation #4
There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to
adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. For the next hour we
will control all that you see and hear. You are about to experience the
awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to the outer limits.
There is nothing wrong with your television. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are now controlling the transmission. We control the horizontal and the vertical. We can deluge you with a thousand channels or expand one single image to crystal clarity and beyond. We can shape your vision to anything our imagination can conceive. For the next hour we will control all that you see and hear. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the deepest inner mind to the outer limits.
