Settings menu

Change Settings

Selecting Change Settings opens a dialog which allows the GUIquotes options to be changed.

Quote Mode

The Quote Mode setting allows the order in which the quotes are shown when the program is run to be changed.

Single File

For a single quote file the quotes can either be selected randomly or sequentially. For the sequential case the quotes are shown in the order they are in the quotes file and when the last quote is reached it starts over at the beginning again.

Multiple Files

For 2 or more quote file the quotes there are a number of ways the order of the quotes can be shown.

  • Sequential quote each file in turn
This will sequentially show each of the quotes in one file. When the last quote of this file is reached the quotes will sequentially be shown in the next file. After the last file it will wrap around to the first file and continue doing this.
  • Sequential quote with alternating files
This will show a quote in one file and then show a quote in the next file. After the last file it will wrap around to the first file and will show the next quote in each file. When the last quote of a file is reached this file will continue from the beginning again.
  • Random quote with alternating files
This will show a random quote in one file and then show a random quote in the next file. After the last file it will wrap around to the first file and will continue to show a random quote in each file in turn.
  • Random quote from random file
This will first randomly pick a quote file then show a random quote from this file. If there is a large difference in the number of quotes in some of the quote files this will allow the quote files with a small number of quotes to have a greater chance of being picked.
  • Random quote from all files
This will first add up the number of quotes in all the files and then will pick a random number in this range. The program will figure out the file and quote corresponding to this number and show it.

Quote Display

The Quote Display setting allows optional information about a quote to be displayed. In addition to the quote a line can be added to display the file name the quote came from and the quote number in that file.

The file name is to make it clear where the quote is from when there are multiple quote files. This must be selected before the quote is displayed. For how to see which file the quote came from while it is displayed see the Menus: Actions Quote Information section.

The quote number is the count of the quote in the quote file where the first quote is 1, the second is 2, etc. This was used during development of the program and was left as an option if anyone wants to see it.

Appearance

Background Color

Clicking the Change Color button opens a dialog which allows the color of the background of the window the quotes are displayed in to be changed. The color is shown in the box to the left of the Change Color button and will show up in the quotes background for the next quote. The default color the first time GUIquotes is run is white.

Quote Font

Clicking the Change Font button opens a dialog which allows the font used to display the quote text to be changed. The font is shown in the box to the left of the Change Font button and will show up in the quotes text for the next quote.

Load Defaults

This will load the program settings used when the program is first run. This will remove any changes that have been made to the settings. It will also reset the counts for the sequential quote modes. Normally it is not necessary to load the defaults but might be needed if something happens to the file the settings are stored in.
