Installing/Uninstalling/Upgrading GUIquotes

GUIquotes does not use an installation program. To install:

Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/Vista/Win7/Win8/Win10

  1. Unzip the downloaded zip file
  2. Move the quotes_program folder to your documents folder or it can be placed on a drive such as c:\utilities\quotes_program or c:\quotes_program

Linux

  1. Unzip the downloaded zip file
  2. Move the quotes_program directory to a directory in your /home path

Mac

  1. Unzip the downloaded zip file
  2. Move the quotes_program folder to one of your folders

Multiple users

To use GUIquotes with more than one user on a computer the quotes_program folder (directory) should be copied to another location for each user. This will allow each user to have different program settings.

Uninstalling

To uninstall GUIquotes simply delete the quotes_program folder (directory). If the program was added to the start menu or startup files this will need to be removed. For Windows locate the Startup folder in the Start Menu, click the Startup folder to expand it, then right click on the GUIquotes shortcut and select Delete. For Linux whatever was done to add the program to the startup files will need to be undone.

Upgrading

Upgrading is the same for all operating systems. This procedure is only needed if you want to retain your settings or keep quote files you have added. To upgrade:

  1. Rename quotes_program to quotes_program-old
  2. Unzip the new program version zip file
  3. Move the settings.ini file from quotes_program-old to quotes_program
  4. Move any quote files you have added from from quotes_program-old/quotes to quotes_program/quotes
  5. After verifying the new program version is working quotes_program-old can be deleted
