Lucasfilm and Paramount To Make Four World Premiere Young Indiana Jones Movies For The Family Channel
One of the most popular and successful movie heroes of all times —— Indiana Jones -- is returning to television via Lucasfilm Ltd. in association with The Family Channel and Paramount Television Group.
Four original Young Indiana Jones movies are being produced by Lucasfilm Ltd. in association with The Family Channel and Paramount for exclusive airing on The Family Channel with the first, Young Indiana Jones and the Hollywood Follies, premiering at 8 p.m. Oct. 15. All four movies feature the adventurer as a young man. The second, Young Indiana Jones and The Treasure of the Peacock's Eye, will air during the first quarter, 1995.
"Young Indiana Jones is produced to be enjoyed by both adults and children, and it is entertainment for the entire family," according to filmmaker George Lucas. Lucas is executive producer of the four movies.
Young Indiana Jones and the Hollywood Follies stars Sean Patrick Flanery as Indy. Flanery portrayed Indiana in The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles television series which aired on ABC and won the 1993 Banff Award, nine Emmy Awards, the Angel Award and a 1992 Golden Globe nomination for best dramatic series. Also starring is Allison Smith as Claire; Dana Gladstone as Erich Von Stroheim, Stephen Caffery as John Ford and Bill Cusack as Irving Thalberg.
The Hollywood Follies is set in 1920. Indiana Jones hopes to pay for his college tuition by carrying out the orders of the president of Universal Pictures to take charge of an out-of-control film shooting in Hollywood. But the eccentrics and megalomaniacs of the silent film industry prove to be adversaries almost as formidable as those Indy encountered in warring Europe. In this comedic but affectionate look at Hollywood, Indy meets movie legends Ford, Thalberg and Von Stroheim.
The Hollywood Follies was executive produced by George Lucas with Rick McCallum as producer. It was written by Jonathan Hales and Matthew Jacobs and directed by Michael Schultz. It was shot in Los Angeles.
The Treasure of the Peacock's Eye was shot on location in Thailand. A dying soldier's last words, a map bearing an ancient Greek inscription and the promise of a 140-carat diamond once the possession of Alexander the Great lead Indy and Remy on an intriguing, action-packed adventure. They pursue the treasure to Alexandria, where they meet author E.M. Forster, to Java and to Singapore. Along the journey they meet the beautiful Lily, the misleading chanteuse Jin-Ming, Chinese pirates, anthropologist Bronislaw Malinowski and the unforgettable child Biok.
It is scheduled to air during the first quarter 1995 on The Family Channel.
For The Treasure of the Peacock's Eye, George Lucas is executive producer, Rick McCallum is producer, Jule Selbo is the writer and Carl Schultz is the director.
In Young Indiana Jones and The Attack of The Hawkmenm, Indy is a reconnaissance photographer with WWI flying aces. He is working undercover to try to persuade the designer of the zeppelin to defect to the Allies.
Young Indiana Jones and Travels With Father has a 10- to 12-year-old Indy accompanying his father to various archaeological and historical sites. The boy runs away from his father and continues his journey with Leo Tolstoy. The Attack of The Hawkmen and Travels With Father will air in 1995 and 1996.
George Lucas is the creator of the phenomenally successful Indiana Jones and Star Wars feature films. He wrote and directed Star Wars in 1977. The film broke all box office records and earned seven Academy Awards.
Lucas was the story author and executive producer for The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. In 1980, he was the executive producer and co-story author of Raiders of the Lost Ark, directed by Steven Spielberg, which won five Oscars. He was the executive producer and creator of the story for Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) and executive producer of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1989.
